Jennifer A. Walker
I have been writing for as long as I can remember, and was first published when I was eleven and wrote a profile of a local poet for my hometown newspaper. I have since had articles published in The Boxer Ring, a national breed-specific magazine, and the book Boxer Champions: 1989-2004. I have written and edited a monthly newsletter for my local Boxer club, and have provided extensive Boxer- and dog-related education via e-mail lists, online forums, and an "ask the expert" site. I have been writing online since 1998, and getting paid for it since 2009 at sites such as Suite101, Bright Hub, LiveSTRONG.com, Demand Media Studios, and as both the Detroit Boxer Examiner and National Boxer Examiner on Examiner.com
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, and may pursue a Master's degree once I decide what I want to be when I grow up! I have been breeding and showing Boxer dogs for the past decade, and hold several positions in the local and national Boxer clubs. My experience with the dogs has allowed me to revisit my education in husbandry, biology, and genetics, and most of my writing to date has focused on Boxer-related issues, often at the request of the larger Boxer community.
My education and work experience have provided me a wide range of knowledge in many diverse areas such as manufacturing, animal husbandry, web design, food service, dog showing and breeding, finance and accounting, veterinary issues, medical billing, tax preparation, customer service, and physical therapy. This allows me to write on a variety of topics in a professional manner, while maintaining a balance between the immediate subject and the wider audience.
I am a voracious reader, which fuels my passion for and enjoyment of writing. I read a wide range of genres, from chick-lit to historic fiction to non-fiction, and I am a complete Harry Potter fanatic. (The puppy in my picture is named, appropriately, "Potter".) I am addicted to learning, and hope I never see the day when I think I know everything about anything!
